About Us

Computers are amazing tools that simplify our lives and make our jobs easier; when they work. When they don’t, there are few things more frustrating than dealing with a system that goes down when you need it the most. IntelliBYTE will help eliminate your frustration. We have technicians with a variety of backgrounds; from A+ certified to electrical and cable experience. We are “power users” and are very familiar with Windows operating systems. We have built our own computer systems and network. The owner and founder of IntelliBYTE started “playing” with computers in 1980. Whatever the problem, hardware or software, we will work with you to get you up and running smoothly as quickly as possible.

In the following pages you will be introduced to some of the services we provide. As you will see, we address many needs of the small business and home office. From computer upgrades and accessories to network installation and cable management, it is our goal to be an extension of your business. Your success is our success. We are on call for you. With emergency service available in areas that keep it practical, we will help ensure that your business stays up and productive!

On-site support for home & businesses

Small businesses and those that work out of the home very often require the support of a professional IT person when making plans and computer decisions. Before you go out and spend that well earned money on hardware and software that you may not need, contact us so that we can help you through the process.

Fault Location and Resolution

Fault locating and resolution may sometimes be beyond the average users capabilities. We will come to your site and assess the fault using time proven procedures. Most faults we will have been seen before but sometimes a new one will appear.  After we have done our assessment we will give you an estimate of what is required to resolve the problem.

Component and Board Replacement

Every now and then a component or board within your computer will be required to be replaced to resolve a problem. On many occasions the component will be within the warranty period and the manufacturer will send a replacement for you to install. We can determine which component has failed, get the replacement part for you, install it, and then test it to make sure that the replaced part works correctly.

Cleaning Service

We believe so firmly in preventive maintenance, we devised a package that truly lives up to our holistic attitude. We will come in and clean your equipment inside and out! Over time dust, smoke, and pet hair will accumulate inside your computer; hair and lint can clog up the small fans. All of this greatly reduces your system’s cooling ability. Heat build-up is a major cause of computer hardware failure. Dust can interfere with disk drives and CD readers. Printers will also suffer from neglect. With daily usage, paper, dust, and ink/toner deposits will accumulate. This will result in blurred images, ink blotches, or illegible text. This equals a lot of wasted paper and time doing reprints. We will clean the ink jet cartridges and paper path. We also use a product designed for rubber components inside a printer. It will help keep rollers, drive belts, grommets and other rubber items conditioned and working like new!

Cleaning & regular preventative maintenance includes looking at both the hardware and the software components of your system. We will come to your location and do everything on site based on a checklist of maintenance items. Keep your computer well maintained and your problems are reduced.

Chip Creep?

We reseat and clean the contacts on your PC expansion boards (cards) with products designed especially for this. Environmental conditionals can cause corrosion on your PC card contacts. The reseating is to avoid “Chip Creep”. Chip creep is when RAM (memory) chips or other expansion boards seem to creep out of their slot. This can cause intermittent system problems or full hardware failure. Chip creep is caused by the continual heating and cooling experienced in the computer. Chip creep can happen from large and prolonged room temperature fluctuations and not just power on/off component heating.

Upgrades

Yes, computers are getting cheaper every day, but do you really want to spend $1200 to replace the one you just bought a year or two ago? Maybe you’d love to add some memory or a network card, but the idea of opening the case makes you uncomfortable. Or perhaps you just aren’t thrilled with spending hours reading cryptic manuals and searching the web to perform a “simple” upgrade. We can take the hassle out of upgrading, and provide the friendly prompt service that is our trademark.

Pre-purchase Consultations

You’re not happy with your current setup and you don’t mind spending a little money to invest in a new system; but where do you start? Does the guy at the computer store know or even care what you really need or is he just trying to move a product? Many people are overwhelmed these days with the multitude of choices on the market. We know computers, we spend the hours going through all the latest reviews and references so you don’t have to. You don’t have to worry about a hard sell because we are more interested in being your continued support rather than just selling computers. Although we can build custom computers, we actually prefer to advocate Dell systems. With Dell, we can order a fully customized computer based on the client's needs and budget. By doing this, the customer can be assured they are getting a product backed by a large company. A company that can provide warranties and parts for many years to come. Again, we are more interested in providing service. We can sit down and discuss your needs and budget, order the system, install it for you, provide any lessons you may feel you need, and provide continued local service and support. Give us a call, let us help!

Tutoring

Time and time again, when we are on a job, we are asked questions like, "How can I change my screen size?" or "How can I print my Excel workbook like I want?". We like computers. We work with them every day and play with them every night. Our knowledge covers many aspects of computer usage and the programs that people use everyday in their own line of work or at home. We can answer many of your questions, show shortcuts and demonstrate ways to use a computer more effectively, teach you how to take control of your computer and be safer and smarter on the Internet. Security is always an important issue to us, we want everyone to protect themselves and understand the vulnerabilities of the modern computer. It helps protect us all.

Help Desk Interface

If you are a corporate employee with an at-home office, you probably have a company help desk to call upon. The problem is that they are on the phone and not sitting with you. First, you must try to convey what your problem is. Secondly, they must try to coach you remotely on what to do. We can provide technical support interface. Our technician will come to you, sit at your machine, and speak directly with your help desk. We will eliminate your frustration and save you valuable time. Think of us as an outsourced IT department.

Networks

Today, network technology is built into practically every computer sold. Broadband Internet access such as cable modems and DSL lines are becoming widely available. With about $200 in extra hardware, a few hours of time and a qualified technician, you can have a computer network in your home. If you have more than one computer in your home or office, there are many reasons to network your computers. Access to central files to avoid the confusion of duplicating files, sharing printers, shared access to the Internet (like using a cable modem), and "head-to-head" games are the most common reasons.

We have installed networks in small offices, home offices and even private homes that want to share broadband Internet access. We can do the wiring, hardware installation and software configuration. To be honest, network hardware is becoming user friendly. You can go to your local computer hardware store and purchase the components and with some effort set it up yourself. The problem is the Internet is not a benign environment these days. There are many issues that should be addressed and steps taken to protect your privacy and data. Doing this for you is a part of our service.

Be wary of “Network Installers” who will do nothing more than plug everything together and say "Done"! The clients are not given any instructions and security issues are not even mentioned, much less acted upon! This is unacceptable to us. When we do a job, we want you to ask questions. By asking questions, you can learn and that is important. We do not feel threatened by a customer who wants to learn what we know. We sell a service there will always be a need for. The more a customer knows, the better for us all. Contact us to set up a visit for a free estimate.

Is a network printer a little out of budget?

Network capable printers can be bought but they are still very expensive. The average price is currently over $1,000. A common workaround for this is to "share" a standard printer. This is done by setting up a computer, with a printer connected to it, on a local network. Other computers on the network then send the print jobs to the printer's computer (host). The disadvantage is the host computer must be on and open for sharing and the process uses resources of the host computer, degrading it's performanec. For around $100 in hardware plus time we can set your standard printer to function like a true network printer, independent of a host computer! Ask us for more information!

Service Contracts

" A stitch in time saves nine." - An old saying, but still very true...

Practically all businesses these days have at least one computer; most have several. They keep their books, contacts, do e-mail and surf the Internet. The disadvantage that plagues a small business or the home office is the lack of trained computer personnel "down the hall". When you have a problem, it can bring things to an unpleasant halt. Once you find someone to help, you still have more down time while you try to communicate to a “technical person” what you have, what happened, and they try to determine how to fix it.

Our business is built upon the idea of offering technical support for the small business and home office. We like to identify problems and provide training to avoid the downs before they happen. In the event something goes wrong, we are on call for you.

During the first service call, we do an preliminarily "cleanup", perform basic maintenance procedures, and Profile your system. The time for this can vary considerably, but the average is 1-2 hours per machine. We do everything possible to optimize and protect your system. Your computer’s security is always paramount to us. After the initial visit, we make a monthly return visit and make sure things are still running smoothly and answer any new questions you may have. These monthly visits are the key to success for all of us. Not only do we provide a service by tuning your system, but we also become a familiar face that you can feel comfortable calling on anytime.   We would like to emphasize our Profile System. We maintain detailed notes about your system’s hardware, approximately 20 printed pages of information per machine. We gather serial numbers of the individual components, dates and file versions of your system files, and primary installed applications. If you need anything, just give us a call and identify which machine you need assistance with. We use a simple numbering and labeling system to avoid confusion. Once you have indicated the machine you need assistance with, we can look up our listing of the components you have. You don’t have to explain everything to us! This is extremely efficient, saves you time, and reduces your stress and hassle.

When you purchase a contract, you get reduced hourly rates, an on call technician, and peace of mind. Our job is to work with you to make your computers work for you. Need an Estimate? Want to buy a contract? Maybe you just want to talk? The initial consultation is free!

Office Organization and Cable Management

We really enjoy useful office and computer accessories. There are a lot of products that can be very useful in helping you organize your desk clutter, or that mass of wires lurking across the back of your desk. We even found a handy little item that will solve the power cube problem (you know, the big black plug thing that covers that last outlet on your power strip that you really need).

When we come into your office, we may suggest some items that could help you regain control of your office. We try to keep some of the popular items and standard replacements (like keyboards, mice, and the power cube adapters) in our vehicles, but when we don’t have an item we will gladly order for you and deliver and install it in person!

As for cable management, we use Wiremold™ brand surface mount raceways in our own office (the center picture below) and think it is an excellent solution to adding modern wiring systems in a dated office without the expense and hassle of running new wires inside an existing wall. A surface mounted system could also be a solution if you are located in a building classified as historical and you can not cut holes in the walls. This product looks nice and functions superbly. Contact us for an onsite evaluation!

Confidentiality

We adhere to the strictest policies concerning information about you and your business. To do our job effectively, we will need full access to your computer(s). Under no circumstances will we divulge any information about you or your business that we may encounter. We can be fully compliant with any confidentially forms that your business may require for acceptance of our services.

In our standard agreement contract we have a section regarding confidentiality. We also have a separate and comprehensive confidentiality agreement for customers who wish to use it. We do not distribute or sell email addresses for any reason whatsoever.

Disaster Recovery

When it comes to protecting our most valuable computer data, most of us know that we should be making regular backups because a system failure would cause unthinkable hardship. Even with this knowledge, many of us live through each day without a backup for our accounting data, customer databases, digital photos and other data that is important and irreplaceable. Why do we put our data in fate's hands each day? Why do we work hard to create new information and not take an extra moment to make a backup copy...just in case? Maybe it's because most of us don't know what to backup, where to backup, what to use to make backups or how to use them. Give us a call and we'll come to you and install the software and setup your data protection plan.

Occasional data loss happens to nearly everyone. Power failures, system or hard drive malfunctions, viruses, program crashes or even simple mistakes can all result in the loss of data. Backing up data regularly should be an integral part of your daily procedures.

Many users whether at business or in the home, have important data sitting on their hard drives. In may cases they have not backed up this data in case of a hardware failure. We can help you put a backup process in place that will cover your vital data needs. We can even arrange for off-site storage.

Included with our Online Backup Service Plan:

  • 24 hour-a-day access to your data using your existing Internet connection.
  • Off-site, encrypted, secure storage.
  • Automated, background backups.
  • Storage of multiple versions of your most valuable files.
  • No storage devices to configure or extra media to buy.

The software we used is designed to routinely copy versions of your important files to a private, secure location. While the data does travel over your Internet connection, it is securely wrapped in an impenetrable 448-bit blowfish encryption key to prevent any chance of unauthorized access. Back-ups can be scheduled to run in the background as often as you wish for the same base price. Pricing is based on storage space, 500 megs. being the entry level. Keep in mind the data is compressed before it is uploaded so you can store much more than you may realize.

By using our service you gain an advantage over traditional backup methods. You have your data in a secure off-site location. This protects you from situations such as theft and fire. What would happen to you if you suddenly lost your customer mailing list? How often does your office backup your QuickBook files? Many businesses have their data insured. Some insurance agencies will give a discount if your data is stored offsite. Just ask, and we will be happy to provide your agent with the details for the purpose of evaluating the security of our service.

Website Development

Do you want your business to have it's place on the Internet? Even a local business that doesn't plan to actually sell anything on the Internet can benefit from having a website. In this era, people will often seek information about a business using the Internet. Once upon a time, seeing something in print had the effect of giving it credibility. These days having a website gives your company that extra edge of professionalism. It is also an excellent way to advertise your products and services. Potential customers can view the information at their leisure in the comfort of their home. Without the pressure of salespeople or having to buy immediately, customers are more open and relaxed. After all, you are reading this page...

We do websites. We can take you from the idea of a name to finished product and provide continued support. Contact us for more information.
